Roofing FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)
How does one recognize a problem roof?
Generally the first sign of roof trouble is a leak.
You may notice stains or dampness. More obvious
signs of trouble will be raised or broken shingles, a
loss of mineral granules in the shingles or dark looking
spots in the sheathing. First, standing back away
from the house, look at the lines of the ridge and
rafters. If they appear to sag, it may indicate
structural problems. Next, look at the roof
surface for signs of wear, checking the shingles for
warping, cupping, looseness or rot. Scan the roof
for any shingles that may have been lifted by the wind
or are missing altogether. Bumps can indicate that
the roofing nails below have become loose. On
asphalt roofs, you'll want to look for bald spots where
the mineral granules have worn away. With wood
shingles, check for curled, broken, and split shingles
and for spots where nails have become loose or rusted.
With tile or slate, individual tiles can chip and break
and require replacement. Additionally, check for
valleys and flashings around the chimney and vents.
Check for broken seals along the flashing's edges and
for rust spots in the metal.
Are you reliable? We have been in the
roofing business since 1980. We install
approximately a million square feet of roofing per year,
plus service calls. We encourage you to call for
our list of references who will confirm that we do our
work in an orderly and efficient manner.
How big is Carrington Roofing? We are a
medium-sized roofing company. We are large enough
to ensure that you get quality service and
state-of-the-art equipment, and small enough to ensure
that you don't get "lost in the shuffle." We do
re-roofing work and repairs on structures ranging from
individual buildings to large commercial projects.
We inspect each project on a regular basis to ensure
that the job is progressing smoothly.
Do you carry liability insurance? Yes.
Our policy is with an A-rated carrier who is reliable
and will be around if problems should arise. We
have $2 million general aggregate coverage and $1
million each occurrence. Our policy is
"occurrence" rather than a "claim made" policy, which
protects both parties into the future. Roofers are
notorious for either not having liability coverage or
having coverage with a company that disappears when
claims arise. This is an important issue to
protect both you and the contractor. You should
ask for proof of liability insurance before work
commences.
Do you carry Workers Compensation Insurance?
Yes. This insures anyone working for Carrington
Roofing who injures themselves; their medical costs and
income are paid by the carrier. Neither you nor
Carrington Roofing are liable for any damages. You
should ask for proof of this coverage before work
commences.
What warranties do you give? We give a
standard three to 15 year warranty against leaks and
defects in workmanship. If the work is done
correctly, after the first rain or high wind, you will
know your roof is correctly installed.
What types of roofs do you install?

Do you clean up the job site? We keep
your property tidy on a daily basis, and at the end of
the job, we ensure there is no sign of the construction
work that has just been completed. If we are
tearing off your roof, debris is unavoidable; you should
make sure that all property is adequately protected. |
